New Atmospheres in Prophetic Art

Updated: Feb 4

A new direction and new assignments in Prophetic Art

Several years ago during a time of local 24/7 prayer, I was doodling on the page while listening and praying, and copying the main roads and rivers of the Wycombe Valley onto the centre of the page. This was a common starting point, just as a way to focus on our local town. While sketching an unusual picture formed in my mind.

Listening to one song on repeat as I prayed - Jason Upton's recording of Fly - spent time in stillness, soaking up the words. This performance of Fly was a live recording, where an unexplained chorus of voices seems to join Jason as he sings - look it up if you haven't heard about it.

Going up to new atmospheres

Going up to new places

Going up to new atmospheres

Gotta have new ears... new ears

Heavenly places

Heavenly,

New revelation

What are you doing?

Where are you going?

You're gonna give

Some of you've been fighting for a very long time

Some of you've been fighting that ground warfare for a very long time

Sticking out your fists and fighting

God wants to take us to new places

New revelation

New perspective

As usual, I tried to be obedient in getting the prophetic picture out of my head and onto paper, as I listened to the song on repeat for several hours. The 'Ariel View' words reminded me of a picture I had already painted of wings hovering over the Wycombe Valley (below).

Acrylic painting of a large pair of white feathered wings hovering over a green valley with signal fires on the hilltops down either side, and five poplar trees to front centre.

This time a head emerged out of the painting, in vibrant colours, with an overgrown ear, and a visor over the face. It was confusing - something about having a heightened sense of listening for a new direction and assignment. I didn't show it to anyone because I had very little interpretation to share, and the style of this picture was even more out of my comfort zone than usual.

Vivid acrylic painting with background painted in hot pink, purple, red, orange and yellow. To right of centre there is a bald head with an oversized ear in hot pink. The features on the front of the face are obscured by a curved visor in vivid green with a yellow centre.

Several years later, and during a very busy time at home, I was taken ill and had extended time to listen to God. Just months later the Covid pandemic hit, and we were all thrown into our individual lock-down monasteries. I had time to review old work, and realised that I had painted our very situation. Our faces were covered in masks and visors, and we were listening closely to God for guidance and sustenance.

Gotta have new ears ... new ears ...

New revelation

What are you doing?

Where are you going? ...

God wants to take us to new places

New revelation

New perspective

Next steps for me was an amazing time of revelation about the idea of a new venture: I Am Prayerful, and an absolute certainty that Prophetic Art needed to be a far greater part of my life.

Has God been giving you new ears and a new perspective recently?
